How to Add Custom Songs

Use the Song Loader Plugin

To prepare Beat Saber to accept custom songs, you’ll first need to download and install a small open source plugin created for this particular purpose. You can find the Song Loader Plugin over at Github. For first time installations, follow these steps.

  1. Download the first time installer zip file.
  2. Make sure that Beat Saber is not running.
  3. Extract the contents of the zip file into Beat Saber‘s installation folder. This will vary depending on whether you installed Beat Saber via the Oculus Store or Steam. You’re looking for the folder that contains Beat Saber.exe.
  4. Drag Beat Saber.exe on top of IPA.exe. Yep, drag one EXE onto the other one.

That’s it! Even though there will now be a Beat Saber (Patch & Launch) shortcut in the folder, you can still just launch the game as per normal.

If you’re upgrading from a prior version, the Github page for the Song Loader Plugin has special upgrade instructions to follow.

Download Custom Songs

In order to find songs that will work with Beat Saber, you can visit a site like Beat Saver, which aggregates custom songs, complete with ratings and comments. All the songs on Beat Savers are downloaded as zip files and contain a folder with several files, including the song inside. In order to install the songs into Beat Saber, simply extract the zip file into the CustomSongs folder that the Song Loader Plugin created.

Now simply launch Beat Saber and the new custom songs will be available to choose from in the song selection list. One word of caution, many of the custom songs at Beat Saver are not for the faint of heart. Many of them are only available in Hard or Expert difficulties.

Alternatively, use Beast Saber

Beast Saber is an all in one tool that allows you to find custom maps (songs), and also allows the community to rate them, sort by genre, and recommend songs to others. It will draw from the aforementioned Beat Saver website, but integrate things better with your game.

To get started, you will need to download Mod Assistant or the Beast Saber BeatDrop2 app. We would recommend that you use Mod Assistant. Download the program, then run it. You don’t need to install anything, and it will automatically try to locate your Beat Saber installation. If you need to, point it at the right folder and then accept the terms and conditions.

Click on the Mods button, then click Install to automatically install all the pre-selected mods. The next time you launch the game, you will see a new “Get More Songs” button has been added to the main menu, and getting your new songs is as easy as clicking on it.
